Release of Information Technician Job Specifications

This regulated industry position requires the ability to read for and comprehend minute details, the willingness to follow training, set instructions, and protocols in order to comply with federal and state legal requirements, and regular daily attendance in order to meet legal deadlines. Technicians must process medical records requests from both paper and electronic formats, into both paper and electronic formats as specified. This includes subpoenas and other legal requests. Safe handling of protected health information is taught and required for all aspects of the position. The work is to be performed at multiple medical facilities throughout the named city area, requiring travel in the employee’s own vehicle to and between facilities on a scheduled basis, as well as the ability to lift 35 pounds of equipment multiple times a day.

Employment will be probationary for a minimum of 60 days, during which training occurs. Extension of the probationary training period may occur at the discretion of management. Prior experience with medical records, in both electronic and paper format, is desirable.

Requirements for performing essential job functions:

Basic keyboard ability
Ability to learn and use multiple electronic health records systems with training
Ability to learn and use proprietary company software with training
Above-average reading comprehension
Telephone interaction skills
Ability to focus on detail-oriented work in frequently busy work environments for multiple hours
Willingness to work in varying physical spaces, sometimes small or in busy internal areas
Willingness to take instruction and follow directions precisely
Ability and willingness to work quietly without disrupting surrounding medical staff
Ability and willingness to refrain from continual personal cell phone use while on the clock
Flexibility to be able to adhere to established protocols as well as to respond to sudden changes in routine as needed
Accuracy in reading and relaying numbers and letters in all forms of communication, written and oral

Applicants must interact professionally with medical staff as well as with patients and other requestors of records. 
Appearance must be neat and behavior appropriate to the medical setting and company requirements—quiet and courteous.

Mileage reimbursement for travel between facilities is paid.  Uniforms are provided with company logo.  Benefits are available for full-time, vested employees, including paid holidays.

Salary is DOE.
